(Herb Pomeroy Tribute Concert)
(Berklee will present a concert in memory of Herb Pomeroy featuring the Berklee Concert Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Greg Hopkins. Some of Pomeroy's most illustrious students and associates (including Toshiko Akiyoshi, Alan Broadbent, Michael Gibbs, Rob Mounsey, Hal Crook, and Greg Hopkins) have been contacted to provide music. The centerpiece of the program will be a composition written by Jaxon Stock who will be here to conduct. This piece was composed as a feature for Herb a couple of years ago, but because of an illness, it was never performed. Guest artists include Jack Walrath, Hal Galper, and Joe Lovano. Proceeds of the concert will go to the Herb Pomeroy Scholarship Fund. Those of us who had the privilege of studying and working with Herb will always remember his inspirational teaching, the beauty of his playing, his sense of humor, and the warmth of his friendship. By performing music written by those directly inspired by him, we hope to celebrate his artistic legacy. With Herb it was always about the music, and this concert promises to be a most wonderful evening of music and great memories.)
